SLEEPY HOLLOW, New York – Daniel Blum of Chappaqua, who joined Phelps Memorial Hospital Center as a senior vice president in September, was recently appointed for a one-year term to the New York State Emergency Medical Services Council (SEMSCO).

In a letter confirming the appointment, NY State Commissioner of Health Richard F. Daines, M.D., wrote, “Your experience and expertise in the field of emergency medical services will contribute significantly to the SEMSCO’s efforts to improve the delivery of these services throughout New York State.”

“This appointment is a terrific honor and it’s my desire to support the EMS agencies who deliver such exceptional service to our community. Ultimately I intend to assure that the best quality of care is provided to the citizens of the state of New York,” said Blum, who is a certified paramedic. He has been a member of the New York State EMS Council since 2001 and has been chairman of the Westchester Regional EMS Council since 2005.

Blum’s extensive clinical, educational and management experience in emergency services began in 1986. He has served as a paramedic, paramedic educator and EMS administrator in New York City and Westchester County and he continues to volunteer for the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Blum has held a number of healthcare administrative and executive positions. In his current role at Phelps, he is responsible for physician practices, strategic planning and clinical ancillary services.

Blum holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a master’s degree in healthcare administration, both from New York University. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Medical Group Management Association.

Phelps Memorial Hospital Center is a 235-bed community hospital with 450 medical staff, representing 34 clinical specialties. Phelps is the exclusive Westchester satellite for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and a clinical affiliate of Mount Sinai Hospital www.phelpshospital.org.
