HYDE PARK, New York -- The public is invited to join regional leaders and honored guests at a “Summit Meeting,” Monday, June 14, from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Henry A. Wallace Center at the FDR Presidential Library and Home on Route 9 in Hyde Park, to hear from the task force leaders about the draft reports developed recently by six citizen task forces on the future of the Hudson Valley. Created as a legacy project of the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial Commission, the task forces grew out of a “listening tour” that gathered ideas from residents in six locations last fall.
“All those concerned about where we go from here and what shape we want the Hudson Valley to take in the future will want to attend the Summit on June 14th,” said Joan Davidson, Chairman of the Quadricentennial Commission. “The task force reports are still in draft form and we welcome public input at the Summit Meeting, online at
www.OurHudson.org, and through a series of town meetings to be held in the fall. Our hope is that the ideas generated by this ongoing process will find their way onto the political agenda in November."
Led by experts in each of six subject areas, the Task Forces are now publishing their draft reports on the internet at
www.OurHudson.org and are formatted in a way to allow for the public to comment. A presentation of suggestions on what kind of organization will be required to implement the task force ideas will be addressed at the Summit Meeting and an agenda of next steps will be presented.
The six priority subjects being discussed include “Agriculture and Food: How We Eat,” “Transportation: How We Get Around,” "Land Use, Energy and the Environment: How We Shape the Valley,” “Culture and Education: How We Live and Learn,” “Economic Development: How We Earn Our Living,” and “Mechanisms for Action: How We Work Together.”
The meeting will be followed by a light reception. Space is limited and anyone wishing to attend must register by contacting Lex Lalli at
