SLEEPY HOLLOW, New York – The Diabetes and Endocrine Center for Children and Young Adults, located on the campus of Phelps Memorial Hospital, has been designated a 2010 Center of Excellence by Medtronic Minimed, the diabetes division of the medical technology company Medtronic.

The Center, under the direction of endocrinologist Richard Noto, MD, is one of the largest pediatric endocrinology groups in the U.S. It is one of only 20 practices nationwide to have received this designation, which recognizes practices that offer the finest and most modern applications in the management of diabetes.

Dr. Noto has long been recognized as an advocate for intensively managing diabetes patients, thus improving overall outcomes. He has more than 25 years of experience with insulin pump therapy and is generally recognized as the first physician to prescribe an insulin pump in New York State.

The Diabetes and Endocrine Center is the only practice in the tri-state area offering a two-day hospital admission training for pediatric patients who are beginning insulin pump therapy and their caregivers.

“This method of education fosters greater understanding and reduces stress on patients and parents. It gives everyone who faces diabetes each day an educational environment that is supportive and nurturing, and the training has a lasting impact,” says Dr. Noto.

The Diabetes and Endocrine Center for Children and Young Adults, a division of Children’s and Women’s Physicians of Westchester, has been involved in numerous clinical trials and post-marketing studies. Most recently, Dr. Noto’s practice examined the use of the newest version of Medtronic’s Sure-T needle set in pediatric patients.

Medtronic Minimed is the leading manufacturer and innovator in the fields of Insulin Pump Therapy (IPT) and Continuous Glucose Monitoring Systems (CGMS).

The Diabetes and Endocrine Center for Children and Young Adults is located in the Medical Services building at Phelps, 755 North Broadway.  For more information, call 914-366-3400.

Phelps Memorial Hospital Center is a 235-bed community hospital with 450 medical staff, representing 34 clinical specialties. Phelps is the exclusive Westchester satellite for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and a clinical affiliate of Mount Sinai Hospital.  www.phelpshospital.org
