Phelps Hospital Medical Staff Honored for Volunteer Service in Haiti by Greater NY Hospital Association

NEW YORK,  New York -- Physicians Frank Lattarulo, MD, and Owen O'Neill, MD, and midwife Tanya Tringali, all of Phelps Memorial Hospital, were among 400 medical personnel who were honored by the Greater New York Hospital Association for volunteering their time and expertise to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti earlier this year. The awards were presented at GNYHA’s Annual Reception and Awards Ceremony on May 27 at the IAC Building in Manhattan. 

Dr. Lattarulo, a podiatrist, and O’Neill, an internist, both of the Wound Healing Institute at Phelps, were deployed to Haiti several weeks after the earthquake, where they provided wound care to earthquake victims in a field hospital set up in tents next to the Port-au-Prince Airport. Tanya Tringali, a certified nurse midwife, was sent to Cite Soleil, just outside of  Port-au-Prince, through an organization called Midwives for Haiti to help reduce the high maternal and infant mortality rate.
